Lesson 1: Present Continuous

Present Continuous:

The present continuous is used to express an action that is happening in the present (meaning now). It can also be used to express an action in the future (for a scheduled event).

Structure:

Statement subject + am/are/is + verb+ing
Contractions
(I’m, you’re, he’s, she’s, it’s, we’re, you’re)

Question Am/Are/Is + subject + verb +ing
Negative question Am I not.. Aren’t you…

Negative Subject + am/are/is not + verb + ing
I’m not You’re not He/She/It isn’t We aren’t They aren’t

Examples:

I am driving to work. (I'm driving to work)
Are you driving to work?
He isn’t driving to work. (He is not driving to work.)
Isn’t he driving to work? (Is he not driving to work?)
