Lesson 2: Present Simple

Present Simple:

The present simple is used to express habits (regular events), general states, the future that is planned (timetable), and it is used with adverbs of frequency (for example; always, sometimes, usually, seldom, never)

Structure:

Statement subject + verb
Negative subject + do not (don’t) / subject + does not (doesn’t)
Question Does / Do + subject + verb
Doesn’t/Don’t + subject + verb
Emphasis: You can use do for emphasis in a sentence.
She really does like her job.
I eat, you eat, he/she/it eats, we eat, they eat (remember - ? third person no ‘s’ Does she eat? He doesn’t eat.)

Examples:

I eat at that restaurant everyday.
My boss does not arrive late.
Do you work on Saturday?
I do like it.

John works for a computer company. He travels a lot. On Saturdays he always goes to the park with his children. He doesn’t like to work on the weekend. He does like his holidays. Doesn’t he have to work? Yes but only during the week.
